Daniel M. Alterman, MD, FACS, FSVS, RPVI, is a surgeon with board certification in Vascular Surgery and General Surgery from the American Board of Surgery. He is an experienced endovascular surgeon at Vascular and Vein Institute of the South and has appointments available in Germantown, Memphis, and Millington, Tennessee, and in West Memphis and Forrest City, Arkansas.

Dr. Alterman provides a full range of open and minimally invasive vascular therapies for diseases of the arteries and veins, including aortic aneurysm, embolization procedures, peripheral vascular disease, limb salvage, dialysis access creation and maintenance and varicose veins. He provides the latest in innovative and minimally invasive therapies such as carotid and aortic stenting, treatment of varicose vein disease with ulcer and leg swelling, peripheral embolization including pelvic congestion syndrome, and uterine fibroid embolization (UFE). He also offers comprehensive expert care for hemodialysis access, including arteriovenous fistula creation, maintenance, and less invasive percutaneous fistula options.

 
Dr. Alterman completed his undergraduate studies at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and graduated with his medical degree from the East Carolina University School of Medicine. He continued his training with a surgical residency and fellowship program at the University of Tennessee. In addition to his board certifications, Dr. Alterman is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and Society of Vascular Surgeons, and is a registered physician in vascular interpretation.
Dr. Alterman is the former Chief of Surgery for Mercy Health Partners and Medical Director of the Non-invasive Vascular Laboratory. He is also an experienced educator, having trained medical students and residents, and has been invited to lecture at various classes. He is also a published author of numerous research articles and review chapters.


Outside of work, Dr. Alterman loves to spend time and travel with his wife and three children. He is an avid cyclist, snowboarder, and motorsports enthusiast. Serving as a medical missionary with World Medical Missions, Dr. Alterman spent ten months as a volunteer surgeon at Tenwek Hospital in Bomet, Kenya.
